Consett & District Cricket Club Won By 6 Wickets

Match report Another excellent all round display saw Consett cruise to a comfortable victory over Annfield Plain Academy. A rain delayed start saw the match reduced to 40 overs per side. Annfield Plain won the toss and elected to bat with a team fielding an impressive 10 juniors. Their progress was steady if not spectacular and saw them reach 138/3 with Connor Townsend top scoring with a patient 33 opening the batting. All of the Consett bowlers were weill disciplined with their lines and lengths and backed up by some excellent work in the field. Only one catch grassed on this occasion (Philly) which was an impressive effort. Special mention to Jamie Bradley on his debut who bowled 5 of the last 10 overs with his crafty little leg spinners to record very creditable figures of 5-0-13-0, keep that up and you will be in the first team in no time!!
Onto Consett's reply. An excellent start was made my openers Turnbull (39) and Huntsman (28) before the latter fell when skying an attempted pull shot after a brisk innings full of cuts, pulls and (for once) good running. Turnbull continued to anchor the innings once Joined by Burinson who made a cautious start before exploding into life against the opposition's spin bowlers. Turnbull was eventually bowled for 39 playing a rather tired looking shot but showed huge signs of a welcome return to form. The score was now 99/2 at the 21 over mark and victory was as good as ours. Burlinson batted on with the assistance of Southern (9) and Wilkinson (13*) before running himself out for 38 with the team only 4 short of victory. The job was then left to Wilkinson and Captain Cox to score the winning run and seal a well deserved victory. Long may this good work continue!!
