Mitford v Consett & District Cricket Club Consett CC 3rd XI on Sun 02 Aug 2015 at 1.45
Consett & District Cricket Club Lost by 154 runs

Match report Consett made the trip to league newcomers Mitford with a team sporting 9 juniors and captain Cox the oldest in the team at 30 by quite some distance. A village cricket ground which had no sightsreens, no electricity or no showers was hardly ideal for a 70 mile round trip on a Sunday afternoon but as ever Consett would be giving it their best shot to win as always against a team containing no juniors at all. Each to their own I suppose.

Captain Cox lost the toss unfortunately and Mitford elected to bat first. All was looking well as at the half way stage Consett had reduced the hosts to 82\5 thanks to two wickets from Bradley and one each from Davison, Murphy and Hall. Unfortunately this was as good as it was going to get for Consett as the powerfully built C Patel decided to dismantle the visitors bowling attack as he battered 12 boundaries and 8 maximums in making 115 off 55 balls before just walking off the field with the score on 220. What had the makings of a close game now suddenly looked well out of reach. Credit to all of the juniors as they stuck to their task in an excellent manner and didn't allow their heads to drop despite what was was going on around them and recovered well to eventually bowl Mitford out in the final over for 241, Billy Hall the main man with 3-30 from 8.4 overs.

Tea was taken thanks to the brief burst of electricity provided from a very small generator produced from someones car boot. The team were maybe not so optimistic of chasing down such a large score and this proved to be the case. Grant was out in the first over before the team had any runs on the board and things got no better from there. A further three wickets fell with the score on 21 as Clarke, Huntsman and Matty Davison fell in quick succession. Consett eventually fell to 52/8 before one partnership of note between Murphy 14 and Hall 24 not out of 34 before Murphy and Harry Davsion were dismissed leaving Consett all out for 87 and losing by 154 runs.

All in all a decent effort from a very youthful team which if the 115 scored by C Patel was taken out it could have been a much closer affair so everyone should keep their heads held high and take positives into the next game at home against Philadelphia
