The club are delighted to be able to announce the signing of Alexander Corver for the 2024 NTCL season.
Alex hails from Canberra in the Australian Capital Territories and at the tender age of 22, is making his second trip to the UK to play club cricket!
The left-handed top order batter current plies his trade for Western District Cricket Club in the ACT Premier Cricket League, where he is vice-captain of their Men’s First Grade side. Alex has also represented the ACT Comets at Under 18 and senior level, quite an achievement! In 2023, Alex played for Llandudno in the North Wales Premier League, and despite not playing his first game until June, he finished second in the run scoring charts during his first stint on foreign shores.
Alex is a qualified coach and spends an enormous amount of time working with the juniors to help give them the best chance of becoming better players. He also coaches for a living, perhaps he can pass on a few tips to some of his peers as well as our future stars…
Alex joins us on a Youth Mobility Visa and will be registered as the club professional under overseas amateur status but we don’t for one minute believe that there will be anything amateur about his time with us. He will be available for the full season and we hope to see him here in plenty of time to acclimatise to the welcoming North Eastern early season weather. The fact that he has asked that all of his playing kit be long-sleeve suggests he's done his research.
Upon speaking with Alex, he is very keen to continue his cricketing journey by spending a season at Blackfyne and hopes to bring a competitive edge to the team and see them pushing hard in all competitions this year. His new team mates are all enthused by his signature and are already talking positively about the season ahead. They’ll all be in for a shock as he has already asked how many times a week they train, just the kind of positivity we love to hear! We all can’t wait to see the man at work from down under (I’m not even sorry).
