Consett & District Cricket Club Consett CC 3rd XI v Peterlee Casuals on Sun 13 Sep 2015 at 1.15
Consett & District Cricket Club Won by 10 wickets

Match report And so to the final game of the season with Consett looking to improve on a record of only one win in their last 7 games in front of a decent support for their final outing and indeed the final outdoor outing of any team this season hoping to match yesterdays 1st X1 victory at Alnmouth. Vice captain Marshall would be taking control for his third consecutive game in search of his first victory as skipper.

On a wicket which has seen a large amount of rain and the postponement of Saturdays 2nd X1 fixture Consett welcomed newcomers Peterlee Casuals who had already been seen once this season at Blackfyne when they took part in the division two finals day that the club had so successfully hosted on August bank holiday Sunday.

At the toss it was decided that Peterlee would be batting first as Consett fielded a youthful but strong looking team with the inclusion of Nick Cook always a welcome bonus. It turned out bowling first was exactly the way to go as the visitors struggled from the off. Excellent bowling by all who came to the bowling crease ensured Peterlee would never pose a total likely to trouble the hosts. Despite several dropped catches and a couple of missed run out opportunities Peterlee were to be dismissed for only 68 runs in 20 overs of their allotted 45. Chief destroyers were Smith 3-19, Cook 3-8 and Roe 2-1 as only the experience of Peart (19) and Ladler (28) every really got to any sort of grips with conditions.

An early tea was taken with Cosnett in optimistic mood of a season ending victory when faced with such a small target to chase. This turned out to be exactly the case.. Captain Marshall bottled it and hid down the order allowing Jamie Bradley to open the innings with Michael Huntsman and the pair eased the hosts to victory in only 9 overs as Consett coasted to what turned out to be the only ten wicket victory for any of the senior teams this season! Bradley finished 35 not out hitting 5 boundaries and Huntsman finished with 29 not out including three boundaries and in the process cemented his place as the teams leading run scorer for the season.

Overall I would suggest that this has been a relatively successful season in terms of 3rd X1 cricket. The team finished the season with 5 victories from 13 league games and for once actually managed to get every fixture played with no abandonments or postponements and were competitive in 11 of those 13 games. We won't say too much about the game away at Mitford as they were far too strong a side for Division two and the addict performance at Sacriston. The other sign of this being a success has been the amount of the clubs juniors who have taken part throughout the season with many debuts being handed out and all of those who have played showing themselves to be more than capable of holding their own at senior level both this season and in the future and this was strongly reflected by the under 15 teams appearance in the Willis Elliot final Whickham and their final league standing of 3rd place which again shows that the future is very bright at Consett!!

A massive thanks to all those that have helped out behind the scenes throughout the season, Team Grant for their ever excellent work with keeping the players fed and ensuring there is always a perfectly presented scorebook to make my job of keeping scores and averages correct. The ground staff for providing us with the facilities on which to play our games, the every loyal Barmy Army for their efforts in supporting the team at every game they have played this season no matter how far away it has been which is always a massive help for the players to know that someone is showing an interest in what they are doing. And of course a big thanks to each and every single player who has turned out this season and made it one of the most enjoyable stress free seasons I have had as a third team player so you all deserve a massive round of applause for your efforts from top of the tree right to the bottom! I hope to see plenty of you throughout the winter months wether it be social events, training or the indoor winter league which I hope you are all keen to take part in and lets hope for even bigger and better things for 2016!!!

Many thanks everyone, Captain Cox
