Consett & District Cricket Club Consett CC 3rd XI v Shotley Bridge on Sun 06 May 2018 at 1:30
Consett & District Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
First game of the season on a scorching hot bank holiday. Shotley Bridge won the toss and put Consett into bat.
Despite racing to 60/0 after 10 overs things sadly began to unravel once Andrew Ray was dismissed for 23. Jamie Bradley still continued on his merry was smashing the ball to all corners of the ground as he reached a superb third senior century. However support was sadly lacking from his team mates with Simon Wilkinson the only other Consett player to make it into double figures as he reached 16 before being dismissed. Others came and went before Jamie would eventually be the 8th wicket to fall with his score exactly 100 out of 161 at the time. The innings was wrapped up soon after for 171 with 10 overs unused which would prove very costly to the home side.
In reply Shotley began in cautious fashion before making sure they punished any loose deliveries as Gibson and Collingwood set about their task. The pair would as it happened all but secure victory for the visitors with a brilliant opening partnership of 145 before Gibson was dismissed for 86 off the bowling of Wilkinson in the 33rd over. Just before the runs were knocked off some amusement was provided as having batted so patiently, Collingwood went for glory with a big shot to bring up both 50 and the winning score only to sky his effort and be held by Ray having made 49, with last seasons captain Elliott then run out without facing a ball the very next delivery. Formalities were completed a few balls later as Shotley reached their target with 7.1 overs to spare.
Only 4 bonus points achieved from last years runners up with a full 20 point win to the visitors. A bit of a rusty start to the season but hopefully something which can be improved upon next time out as the team travel to face last seasons champions, Cowgate.
