Littletown v Consett & District Cricket Club Consett CC 3rd XI on Sun 03 Jun 2018 at 1:30
Consett & District Cricket Club Lost by 88 runs
Match report
Fourth game of the season saw Consett travel to Littletown. Despite heavy rain the day before the hosts had done an excellent job of getting the game on so well done to them. A slightly reduced 35 overs per side game was to follow.
Consett again lost the toss and were asked to field first. Good early bowling from Smith and Marshall saw the hosts struggle, again dropped catches didn't help matters however. At the half way stage they had managed to reduce the hosts to 52 for 4 an excellent effort. This was as good as it was to get as the runs started top flow thereafter. Firstly Crowder and Hodgkiss were to begin the rebuilding mission with a partnership worth 47 before the real fireworks came. Chapplow joined Crowder to add a rapid 44 partnership before he continued to do further damage before eventually being dismissed for a top score of 45 made from just 23 deliveries. In total the hosts amassed 115 from the final 10 overs as Consett almost completely gave up in the field as Dhavala and Tene took the score past 200 in the final over before they eventually settled on 205/8. Oh dear
As was the pattern of the season so far the top order again failed to make much of an impact. Wickets fell at regular intervals with only Marshall out of the top 6 reaching double figures. At 50 for 6 the game was as good as gone. The lower order did at least contribute some late entertainment as Johnson (30). Smith (19) and Hunter (15) did at least drag the score above 100 before Jonny Bradley was last man out with the score on 117. As is this case with the 2nd X1, the 3rd X1 are also finding runs very hard to come by. If only the 3rd X1 captain could follow the elad of his academicals counterpart then the team might start to be in with a fighting chance.....
Man Of The Match - Nathan Smith
Dick Of The Day - Anthony Hunter
Next up sees Kimblesworth visit Blackfyne on Sunday 10th June, a fixture that is usually guaranteed lots of runs and plenty of entertainment. Let's just hope that this coming one sees Consett scorer more than their visitors....
