Consett & District Cricket Club Consett CC 3rd XI v Durham Ladies on Sun 16 Jun 2013 at 1.30pm
Consett & District Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
A warm and mostly Sunny day saw Consett welcome Durham Ladies to Blackfyne for a one off friendly match in which Durham were looking for match practice and Consett were keen to maintain their fantastic form so far this season.
Captain Cox won the toss after visiting skipper Falla called incorrectly and had no hesitation in asking Durham to bat first on what looked a belter of a pitch.
It was over to Cook and Wilkinson to open the bowling and they were not to disappoint when it came to the search for wickets (although they struggled at first to adjust to the idea of playing tight wides which can be seen from the scorecard). First ball of the match saw Cook bowling to his better half Hockaday and as had been joked about all week prior to the game he was quick to provide her with a well directed short pitched delivery which saw her pouched at midwicket from the first ball of the game (I'm sure that went down well after the game when they got home). An opening burst of 4 overs each saw Durham struggle to 32/5 after 8 overs with 2 wickets apiece for the bowlers and a run out and top scorer Catherine Chapman also dismissed after being her only team member to reach double figures with a score of 11.
A double change of bowling saw young spin duo of Scott and Bradley introduced into the attack and immediately both bowlers settled into bowling consistent and excellent lines and lengths and also extracted some appreciable turn from a wicket which was still very new. They both managed to claim 2 wickets from their respective spells and a further run out eventually saw Durham Ladies dismissed for 45, a score they informed us that they were most disappointed with.
Consett came out to bat hoping to avoid any slip ups or collapses which could see them ruin the hard work of their bowling and fielding efforts that had restricted the visitors to such a low total. Durham's opening attack perhaps surprised the hosts as they demonstrated excellent discipline with their line and length and looked very sharp in the field looking to atone for their poor showing earlier. Turnbull was to top score for the hosts with 17 before nicking behind in the face of the impressive Glen who also removed Burlinson for 9 and Southern for 4 to finish with impressive figures of 3 for 14 and opening partner Pringle took 1 for 30 dismissing Clarke for 5. Consett won the match 4 wickets down with Bainbridge 2* and Wilkisnon scoring the winning runs via a boundary to finish 5*.
It was agreed that at the end of this game that the teams would take tea and come back to the field and play a T20 in order to make the most of the remaining time available and give the teams the chance to pratice their skills in all departments, details of this will be uploaded in due course but in the meantime Consett 3rd X1's fantastic form continues.....
