Consett & District Cricket Club Consett CC 2nd XI v Swalwell on Sat 06 May 2017 at 1:30
Consett & District Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Consett won the toss and batted first on a cold Saturday afternoon. Several batsmen got starts but no one went on to make a significant contribution in another youthful looking second team. Four made it into the 20's with Pyke top scoring with 27, O'Neill making 25 and both Clarke and Stokoe contributing 22. However the regular loss of wickets and no partnerships 50 or above meant that the hosts were bowled out for 143 with 5.1 of their allocated overs unused. Something that will need to change if they are to become competitive and win games more regularly.
Second half an experience showed. Despite the early success of removing Mawson for 17 the experience of Gray combined with the watchfulness of Hodgson to blunt the Consett attack. The Consett bowlers stuck to their task well with disciplined lines and lengths but the pair just didn't offer chances. they combined for a 109 run partnership to take their side to the brink of victory. However Pyke and Stoke would return for second spells and both still gave plenty of effort as another four wickets were taken. Pyke finishing with 3 for 37 and Stokoe 2 for 37. Despite this fightback the visitors were able to cruise to victory with 8.1 overs to spare.
Much to consider before the trip down the bank next week to face those folks from Shotley!
Man of the match after a top score of 27 and finishing the day with 3 wickets was Daniel Pyke.
Dick of the day for being run out (again) not paying attention and being useless in the field again it's Simon Wilkinson
